Slotwinski Wedding | Detroit, MI
Who knew swiping right on a boy from Canada and a girl from the U.S. could create such loveliness? I’ve never been more thankful to be part of a wedding as much as this one. Not just because of how beautiful their wedding was- the gorgeous light, the people, the style, the details and venue but what stood out more than anything to me that day was how laid back and happy Matthew & Jessica were. Every single moment was meaningful but in the simplest ways. We roamed around Detroit visiting the locations of their first date in Greektown, with a first look in the hotel lobby where they met and all their favorite meet up’s while Jessica was in school and portraits on Belle Isle where Matthew proposed. I mostly loved how much their friends and family came together and celebrated and boy, did they celebrate! So many genuine feel good moments from the most epic wedding party entrances (let’s be real, those can be pretty boring), to hilarious speeches, every guest joining in on singing the rewritten lyrics of Sweet Caroline describing their relationship from Matthew’s mom and aunts, and icing the groom (which he is notorious for doing to others and apparently this is an American thing that I had never heard of). This day was exactly what all weddings should be about. Take away the venue, the dresses, flowers, etc. and you’d still have a true joining of two families and people who genuinely love being near each other.
Major thanks to Chelsea Kattleman for second shooting, carrying equipment, feeding my early pregnant body with food and emotional support throughout this day. I couldn’t have done it without her! Also, shout out to Matthew, Jess and the entire wedding party for making sure I was drinking enough water and snacks throughout the day. xoxo
